I heat my home with wood during the winter, so I need many cords of wood split each year. I do all the work by hand without the use of a log splitter. Splitting wedges, this sweet sledge, and my trusty splitting maul.I split about 20 cords of wood this year, which is quite a bit. Most all of the wood I split is 15-30" rounds, almost all of it needing to be split in half with a sledge & wedges. It's all hardwood (oak, etc) - so the BASH sledge gets a lot of very hard use. I've more than put this through its paces, and it's gonna last a lot more years. Handle is in great shape (there aren't many mis-strikes to speak of) - and the head is very firmly on like when it was unpacked new.So, all in all this is a great product and I'd recommend it. Kinda pricey, but I like to buy once cry once.As one last note - this is a 10LB head, but the handle does add some decent heft to it, since it has steel rods in it. So, it will probably weigh more than you think. But hey, I'd rather have a product that lasts the test of time than have to go buy handles every year or so.I used to work at a rock quarry, which is a work environment that will quickly crew up and spit out any inferior tool used there. These Wilton BASH sledge hammers were the only hammers we used that would not die. Over strikes are not a problem with the steel handle, the head will not come flying off and hit your buddy thanks to it’s unique head retention system, it’s absorbs shock much better than wood handled sledges and the rubberized handle makes it easy to grip and not slip out of your hands when covered in grease or oil. (Once again, your buddy will thank you for not doing that). Now, as a shop Diesel mechanic, I have invested in Wilton BASH sledge hammers for all of these reasons. Swing em’ as hard as you like. They will not let you down. What really sets this sledgehammer apart from other hammers on the market is the handle. Most sledgehammers have either a wooden or fiberglass handle which will break after a certain amount of stress. This one has steel rods running through the handle instead, wrapped with thick rubber. It weighs about twice as much as an ordinary handle, but it is literally unbreakable; there are actually youtube videos of people trying to break it by running it over with a bulldozer. It also feels more balanced, is easier to grip, and absorbs vibrations better than other hammers as well. It also looks badass, and feels great in the hands. Whether you are smashing through a wall, preparing for the zombie apocalypse, or just using it for exercise, this hammer will definitely get the job done. Just make sure when you open the package that you aren't standing next to any expensive breakable objects, as you may suddenly feel overcome with a desire to smash things. This thing is serious. I have always used old-school sledge hammers (hickory handle, big unfinished misshapen head). This one has an awesome and functional shape - it stands on end easily and has two perfectly symmetrical striking heads. The handle is the best thing since sliced bread, it's rubberized and has especially thick rubber at the top and bottom for gripping and overstrike purposes.I bought it to beat on a tractor tire and train for fire academy, and so far it is a dream to use. LOVE IT. Also my dad is jelly asf because he's still got his old hickory piece. What can I say about this sledge hammer, it's the best one that I've ever used. I purchased this to use in a heavy truck repair shop. I almost cancelled the the order to get the 12 lb sledge and am glad I stayed with the 10 pounder. The handle uses a solid metal core which significantly added to the weight. I put it on the scale at home and it came in at 14 lbs. A bit pricey, but I expect this to virtually last forever. After reading the specs on their web site, I am confident that this will also be one of the safest sledge hammers you can buy. This thing is tough.Great sledgehammer. Used for demolition and construction. Handle has good grip, good shock mitigation and won’t slip. The only thing that this might not be suitable for is work around solvents and petroleum compounds. For everything that I do, this is perfect and it looks like I won’t need to replace handles anymoreworks great, i wish i had payed more attention to the details, it has a 36inch handle. so it was to long for what i needed it for. I cut about 12 inches off the handle, but, i use this for flowback every day, i was breaking handles at least twice a week until i started using this Wilton unbreakable, i now have 4 for different jobs or angles of swinging, but it works GREAT, i love it, highly recommended. Most recommend a 6-8lb sledge for flowback, i like the 10lb because it gets the job done greatPurchased this item for driving 1" thick, 42" long stakes into the earth. Other hammers shatter after one overstrike. This thing takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I don't mind letting others jump in on the action because I am fairly confident that amateurs cannot break this b.a.s.h. Even pounding through solid rock, I love the feel of it. My only complaint is that I would love to see a slightly larger face for what we do. I have the 10lb head and overall with the handle it is about 14+lbs.
